In the religious and spiritual world there are many ideas of what truth is. To some this can become confusing and the questing soul can be lead down many false trails, before they find a path with which they are comfortable.
What the inquiring mind needs to do, is stop in their tracks and decide exactly what they do or do not believe for themselves.
Remember we do not all have to believe in the same thing to do what is right for ourselves. All beliefs are right for the person who is comfortable with the course they have taken. Its good to investigate and widen our boundries, taking in things we haven't thought about before. A mind that acts in this way is less intolerant of alternative beliefs, being able to see where the other person is coming from, while maybe not sharing a belief system.
For me, dumping the fetters of religion and breaking lose into a world of spirituality, was a beginning. Then I spent years sifting through everything of a spiritual nature that I came across, discarding some things as not for me and embracing others and taking them to my heart.
The biggest, thing that I watch out for and I urge others to be aware of, maybe I shouldn't, is anything that puts limitations on your souls quest for the freedom it craves. Therefore be very cautious of accepting anything that hints at having rules, no matter how sublimely those conditions are implied.
There are no rules to break, the only rules you need to follow are those you make for yourself, rules that can be changed without any feelings of guilt as you move on and grow away from them.
It is my maxim to say that we all should realise that we can have a spiritual life without having ANY RULES TO BREAK!
