What are the metaphors in your life showing you?
This month I was inspired to take a look at metaphors that have shown up in my life. What I mean by metaphors is what films, songs or books have looked to have nothing in common with my reality yet have changed the way I look at things or dramatically changed the way I feel.
Author J.K Rowling and the Harry Potter series inspired me so much so that I would escape into the world of hogwarts. Anything that has a profound effect on how you feel be it a book, a film, the lyrics in a song, does so because there is something in it for you, something that can help you on your own individual journey. The universe is providing a mirror; an opportunity for you to see what’s important to you and how you live your life.
Millions of others were inspired by Harry Potter too yet we all have different reasons for being so attracted to it. Moreover how we apply what inspired us to our own lives, if at all, will be unique to each of us.
My reasons for falling in love with the series are-
Courage in the face of huge adversity
Fear at the boundary of the unknown
The freedom to use your imagination
The power we have to shape our worlds
The love of your parents
The theme that in the end love always wins
Not only the characters and story lines within the books but J.K Rowling herself and how she began writing Harry Potter have highlighted other key themes...
She was travelling on a delayed train from Manchester to London and this reminded me of my love for train journeys. Why? Throughout the journey you have no idea where you are, there are no sign posts on the fields as you look out of the window yet you relax into your knowing that you will reach your destination. I guess I like to live my life in a similar way, especially if I am moving toward a dream goal or destination.
She had also been writing for years and was lit up and ready for the information and idea of Harry Potter to land when it did. When that information did appear in her mind’s eye she describes having never been so excited by an idea. This was another validation for my own belief that when something is right you, you just know.
I invite you to look at what people, films, songs even t.v series’ you enjoy or inspire you and dig a little deeper into the why.
